Deutscher Wetterdienst's global model, drawn worldwide at 0.125° — about 13 km — rather than the 0.25° open-data grid most sites use for a global run. Hourly to 78 hours, then three-hourly to seven and a half days, in authentic ecCharts colours.
ICON-EU Explorer
The European nest at 0.0625° — about 6.5 km — from the mid-Atlantic to the Urals, eight runs a day. The same model as the global run at four times the cells, in the same colours on the same band breaks, so a swipe between them shows where the resolution actually changes the forecast.
Polar Explorer
The Arctic and Antarctic in polar stereographic projection — the two places a Mercator map physically cannot draw, because the projection is infinite at 85°. True at 70°, guaranteed to 45° on every meridian. A stretched polar vortex is a German forecast three weeks out, and this is the only frame that shows it whole.
Germany, right now
Straight to the country this site is named for, at 2-metre temperature. Every place in the picker is a viewport on one raster rather than its own render, so switching from Bavaria to the Baltic — or to Chile — costs nothing and happens instantly.
Exits by continent
ONE RASTER · EVERY VIEW IS A VIEWPORTEach of these opens the Explorer on that part of the world, on the globe rather than flat — across the North America frame Mercator distorts area nearly fourteenfold end to end, which is the difference between Greenland reading as a continent and reading as an island. Nothing is re-rendered to get there: one global raster serves every one of them.
Why this site exists
The full-resolution model
Most freely available ICON imagery comes from the 0.25° regridded feed, or from a nest shown only over its own country. This site draws DWD's 0.125° global dissemination — four times as many grid points — and the full ICON-EU domain at 0.0625°, so an Alpine valley, a North Sea convergence line or a Föhn wind down the Inn is the size the model actually made it.
Honest rendering
Colour scales are pinned to absolute values, never re-fit per frame, and the ecCharts tables are the real ECMWF Magics colours on their published level breaks — used here so a DWD chart and an ECMWF chart are read on one scale — discrete bands, not a smoothed rainbow. Point at the map and it names the band, because that is the only claim the chart makes.
Built for speed
No tracking, no cookie banner, no account. Pages are static files, the basemap is self-hosted, and nothing is fetched from a third party.
Part of a network
Forecast Euro draws ECMWF worldwide, Forecast Eagle covers North America from NOAA sources, and Forecast Canada covers Canada from MSC. Forecast Germany is the same instrument pointed at the German service — and at a pair of models rather than one, because the interesting thing about ICON is the nest and the run driving it read together. Because the parent is global, so is half of this site.
